Explanation of Study Guide and Strategy
My goal is to get at least a 4 on the AP exam. My strategy is to go through the Achiever in order to review 1st semester topics and refresh my memory on those in 2nd semester. I highlighted a lot of the key terms and important details in the Achiever to reinforce my memory and make it stand out when I flipped back through it. Along with the Achiever, I read several outlines of the time periods that I found online and used Quizlet to go through the terminology. I also did practice tests and a DBQ to prepare myself for the real exam. Reading examples of good essays that I found in the Achiever and on the College Board website helped me get a better understanding of how to write and also improved my understanding on the topics themselves. I also went back to the DBQ rubric to refresh my memory on the requirements to achieve the expanded core. I also met several times with my study group which was useful in reviewing the material from the first semester. It was also important to compare the timelines and make sure I had a good understanding of the chronological order of the social, intellectual, and political issues.
Reflection
This project prompted me to take the initiative and seek out new materials and resources for studying. The practice tests and the review articles in particular were helpful along with the timelines which gave me a better sense of the events in chronological order. The videos were also a huge help as they reviewed the material visually and auditory. I did not find the graphic organizers and the powerpoints very useful as the only powerpoints I found weren't detailed enough and only provided the basics for a teacher's guidance during a lecture. The study groups were helpful to go over the things we didn't know and to learn from each other. We met several times in the prior weeks and it helped reinforce the things I needed to know for the test. Overall, I found the study groups as useful, though the website was a lesser part of my studying than the Achiever and my old notes. Some of the resources I found were helpful but it was a lot more effective to go through practice quizzes and reading example essays.
